Space Geodetic Observation Center
Space Geodetic Observation Center

To identify tasks by Space Geodetic Observation Center, one has to know the meaning of “QUASAR” first. As the core of activating the universe from billion light years away from the earth, QUASAR is several trillion times brighter than the sun. As it is fixed at the end of the universe, it is the standard for measuring the location in the space. What is geodesic survey? Geodesic survey is a space geodetic observation technology which measures the distance of thousands of km to the level of mm by receiving radio waves of QUASAR from two points and more in the earth. It calculates the distance of two points geometrically by using the time difference of plane radio waves of QUASAR reaching two antennas and more.

The center calculatesthe time difference of radio waves of QUASAR in reaching antennas in the earth by using a hydrogen atomic clock with errors of one second for 300 million years saves the result in recording devices and calculates relevant information such as distance and location by analyzing and processing data process. By utilizingthe data, natural disasters such as earthquake and tsunami can be prevented. Space geodetic observation technology measures the earth’s surface by defining the shape, size and gravity field of the earth and deciding the location of celestial bodies in the space. Therefore, it can define coordinate system or oval figures to state earth’s movement in the space or location in the earth.

Information

Space Geodetic Observation Center operates the promotion center where visitors can learn everything about space geodetic observation. The center is openfrom Monday to Friday and closed during holidays. The opening hours are from 10:00 am to 5:00 pm, while lunch time is from 12:00 noon to 1:00 pm, when the center is closed. Admission and parking are free. For regular visit, visitors can enter in the center without prior reservation, whereas a group with 10 persons and over needs to conduct prior reservation.
